Kujichagulia: Self-determination

Kwanzaa series

Kujichagulia: Self-determination

Represented by the first red candle on the Kinara, to the right of Umoja, symbolizes the illumination of the principle of Self-determination.

The second of the seven principles is Self-determination spoken in Swahili- Kujichgulia. The principle of Self-determination. The principle of Self-determination is to embrace individually the practice of making a resolution for the common for the needs of the many. In the principles of Jesus some will recognize us for what we do in Christ Jesus and other will not, however; we who have come together, work as brothers and sisters in the community of Faith.

1 Corinthians 9:2 If I be not an apostle unto others, yet doubtless I am to you: for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

Sovereign God, we come with thanks in a spirit of oneness acknowledging our self-determination as our right because of Your Son Jesus. We sing praises for the determination of developing our communities with a forthright understanding that Jesus is the reason. We decree and declare blessings for our leaders, so that whichever way You lead them they will follow and understand the purpose of who You are and those who follow. This we pray with an anointing in the name of Jesus. Amen.
